Iris & Ofer Portugaly with Gospel Choir
Iris and Ofer Portugaly with their Israeli Gospel Choir
"Adon Haselichot" - Gospel, the Jewish way
Iris and Ofer Portugaly are one of the leading musical duos in the Jazz and Gospel scene in Israel.
They met at Berklee College of Music 22 years ago, and even though the Israeli Jazz scene was not quite developed at the time,
they decided to return home, with a goal to combine traditional American Jazz music with their Israeli roots and Jewish tradition.
Over the years, Ofer became enamored with the dream of creating a genuine parallel to the Christian gospel of the black church.
Now, in a breathtaking show, Adon Haselichot, Iris and Ofer Portugali and their gospel choir combine the energies, harmony and
richness of American gospel music with Jewish prayers, thereby creating a new genre – “Jewish gospel.”
10 years ago, Ofer founded the Israeli Gospel Choir, and now, in the height of their careers, they successfully blend the Gospel spirit
with prayers of the synagogues, bringing a variety of flavors from the different ethnic groups of the Jewish tradition.
